Diabetic Foot Ulcers

Foot ulcers are a common risk for people with Diabetes. Regular checks are recommended.

These clients are categorised as At-Risk and High Risk and are provided an experienced clinician to educate and help source beneficial and practical footwear and foot orthotics.

Charcot Arthropathy

A condition that is very harmful to an individuals mobility and stability. A client will be managed by a hospital team of Doctors, Podiatrists and Pedorthists

These Clients when healed, are referred for custom made footwear for a changed foot shape. Peripheral Neuropathy

A loss of sensation to the foot is a large reason why people damage their feet. A loss of protective sensation - i.e. the inability to detect pressure or temperature in the persons feet - result in an increased risk of unrealised injury.

Charcot Marie Tooth

Loss of neuro-muscular function with a foot shape slowly deforming away from 'normal' are the major issues for people with CMT. CMT can effect people of all ages and activity levels. Providing suitable footwear for age and condition is very important.

CMT has a large range from mild to severe pathologies requiring a response. Weight bearing mobility is a key factor for anyone with CMT.

Even after surgical intervention an ankle can be problematic to people who want to stay mobile and active.

It's best if ankle bracing, if required is tried on and walked around in, under direct observation. Most times we will try a simple footwear modification to alleviate the constant pain before going into orthotics or ankle bracing.

Cerebral Palsy

CP is categorised as developmental of posture control and movement due to abnormal muscle tone and function. So walking is a huge issue for many with CP. Normal footwear will tend to wear out very quickly.

We always look to find improvements to client’s own footwear to make them last longer. In a majority of our clients we modify shoes or custom make footwear to get them a wearable shoe that they love to wear which helps them stay comfortable and keeps them mobile and active.

Haglunds Deformity

Characterised by a bony prominence near the Achilles Insertion point, this area becomes very painful for anyone wearing commercial footwear.

 

If untreated, it can lead to further enlarged long term deformities.

HAGLUNDS

Leg Length Differences

LLD can be caused by birth, trauma, pathology or after surgical intervention.

Accurate measurements of the buildup required are taken through gait mobility analysis by experts at BFS Pedorthics. Changes to your own shoes can be done to be disguised within the shoe itself.

Iliotibial Band Syndrome

A common injury for runners and a twice as likely to occur in female runners. Common in cyclists and tennis players.

Perthes Disease

Occurring more commonly in boys the most common osteochondrosis affects the femoral head and the hip joint. Developmental issues for the femur are present and leg length differences need to be balanced.
